NCAA punishes Oklahoma, Tennessee hearing set, USC appeal pending
I wake up this morning and am flooded with AP stories regarding NCAA violations, probation, and investigations. Just another day in the life of a college football writer? Perhaps.
The big news is the expected release of the list of allegations from Tennessee later today, with most of the attention being placed on men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl but also dimes out former football coach Lane Kiffin. We’ll see just what Kiffin and his staff are being accused of once the allegations are released and analyze what it means for Kiffin later on.
Meanwhile Oklahoma self-reported a handful of secondary violations to the NCAA, which resulted in the loss of organized offseason practices. I commented on this story on Examiner this morning but I’ll say again that I do not feel that the Sooners are in store for any further punishment as long as the appropriate actions are taken to ensure the rules are being followed.
USC continues to play the waiting game to find out if the NCAA will be kind in accepting an appeal against some NCAA sanctions levied on the athletic program, including football and men’s basketball. We are now four weeks in to a decision period that is supposed to span four to eight weeks.
