Bowden defeats Edwards in clash of Hall of Famers

On this day in 1991…

College Football Hall of Fame coach Bobby Bowden led No. 1 Florida State to a 44-28 victory over College Football Hall of Fame coach LaVell Edwards and No. 19 BYU in the Pigskin Classic in Anaheim, Calif. The Seminoles limited reigning Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer to under 300 passing yards for the first time in 25 outings, while his counterpart Casey Weldon submitted an efficient 21 of 28 passing for 268 yards and two scores to lead Florida State.
