This would be the greatest tribute to Coach Peterno to be able to pick his own NEW head coach. Coach has brought millions to Penn State and has turned out some superior football players during his tenure at Line Backer University. He deserves this chance of his liftime. May God bless him in with the decision he has to make about his future.
Penn State interested in Meyer IF they need a coach
Urban Meyer is a popular name in college football, and many suspect that he will be back in the coaching game in a short amount of time after taking off this year to work for ESPN instead of taking on the high pressure job of coaching a major college football program, such as Florida. Many feel as though he would be a top candidate for the job at Ohio State if the Buckeyes decide that Luke Fickell is not the right choice.
Penn State fans have mentioned Meyer in a number of conversations over the past year as well. Now, it appears, Penn State brass aren’t shy of the possibility if they are in position of need to find a new head coach.
Seasoned Ohio State reporter Jeff Rapp reported on Friday that Penn State contacted Meyer about the possibility of pursuing him as a new head coach back on September 25, when the ESPN analysts was on campus to interview Michael Mauti for a featured segment. According to a source close to Meyer, there are three jobs that would have Meyer jump at the opportunity to return to coaching: Ohio State, Texas and Penn State.
“Urban would love to have that job,” the source said. “Keep in mind, though, that he doesn’t want to be known as the guy who forced out Joe Paterno. It would have to be done in the right way. I think they could appeal to Joe Pa’s best interests and allow him to be the king-maker.”
Meyer will also be in town this weekend as part of the broadcast team for the ABC/ESPN coverage of Penn State’s game against Iowa.
Joe Paterno has not said he will be stepping aside after this season, his final year under contract.
