This day in college football history, USC beats Washington State in Kingdome

Always remember the Kingdome.

On this day in 1976

No. 12 USC, led by College Football Hall of Fame coach John Robinson in his first year at the school, met Washington State in the first college football game ever staged at Seattle’s brand-new Kingdome. Trojans tailback and future College Football Hall of Famer Ricky Bell carried the day, setting Pac-8 records with 51 rushes for 346 yards. USC believed Bell had set the NCAA single-game rushing record, but an adding error left the runner four yards short of Michigan State’s Eric Allen’s mark set five years earlier.

Always remember the Kingdome.
