Boise State given approval to join Big East as football-only member

The latest hurdle for the Big East in obtaining Boise State as a football-only member appears to have been leapt.

The State Board of Education in Idaho voted Thursday to approve a motion to allow Boise State join the Big East as a football-only member, which reports have indicated is what the Big East will offer to the university.

Boise State is one of six schools to be reported to expect an invite to the conference, which is trying to refuel after impending losses of Pittsburgh and Syracuse to the ACC, West Virginia to the Big 12 and TCU never playing a down after accepting an invitation but heading to the Big 12 instead. Boise State’s addition to the Big East may or may not hinge on finding a western partner to join with them. Air Force appears to be the most likely school to join the Big East as a football-only member. There is discussion that Air Force and Boise State may try to convince BYU to join as well, which the Big East would likely consider as a possibility.
