Northwestern concludes spring practice with dizzy bat races

Just another reason to love Pat Fitzgerald

I have made no secret that Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald is one of my favorites in the game. So you can guess that I am a fan of the way Fitzgerald wraps up spring practices in Evanston by letting loose and having a little fun with his team after a hard-working spring.

Teams line up and spin ten times around a baseball bat, then run down field to get on all fours to eat a hot dog. The team that eats all of their hot dogs gets 250 points. Sounds simple enough, right? Let’s watch!

Oh, this looks like so much fun.

This is just one more event in Northwestern’s Spring Wildcat Games, which includes linemen fielding punts and the intimidating gauntlet event, in which players spin in circles and then run down field attempting to haul in passes left and right. Thank you Internet, for allowing us all to get a glimpse in to the lighter side of spring practices at Northwestern.
