Eastern Michigan Eagles introducing a gray and white helmet
It is not abnormal for a recruit or incoming player to break news of a new football uniform for a program. Schools are always showing off upcoming uniforms to recruits because kids are so easily swayed in to a decision based on uniforms. Hey, if it works for Oregon, why can’t it work for Eastern Michigan (OK, scratch that).
That is exactly how we all came to know about Eastern Michigan’s new helmet and look. Incoming freshman linebacker Hunter Matt tweeted a photo (he thinks they are “dirty as [EXPLETIVE DELETED]“)on a January visit to the campus, and more recently Eastern Michigan released official information about the uniform on their athletics website.
The 2012 Eastern Michigan Football team will feature new state of the art football Techfit uniforms. These uniforms are seamless and 30 percent lighter than the normal stretch mesh jerseys. Adidas outfits the Eagles with top of the line products including the new 6.9 oz Adizero Cleats, which are the lightest football cleats ever made on the market. We feel if you look good, you will feel good and play good!
So how many uniform combinations will Eastern Michigan have this season? How about, THIS MANY! (Images credited to Adidas and Eastern Michigan Athletics)
Yep, that would be one for each game Eastern Michigan will play in the 2012 season. Six dark uniform combinations and six light uniform combinations. Heck, if the Eagles defy all odds and actually win some games, they may even have to think about finding a special bowl uniform, but let’s stick to these 12 combinations for the time being.
As for the look, I know Eastern Michigan is trying to do something to generate any interest in their desolate program, but at least they didn’t get too carried away with changing their look. I like that they kept the green helmet, and the white helmet is fine with me. Of course, I’m no fan of the gray. Since when do people get excited about gray. Isn’t gray the main reason color television and color photos were invented? How many kids pick out the gray Crayola in their box of 64 crayons? If the Eagles decided to stick with green and white and make some minor tweaks that would have been preferable, but it looks as though we will have an early candidate for next season’s worst college football uniform bracket (vote in the championship round now).
We also got a look at the gloves Eastern Michigan will be wearing, if interested…
