Mike Leach on Craig James, Bill Snyder a sorcerer, and more
Mike Leach talks to fans on Reddit
On Monday afternoon Washington State head coach Mike Leach took to the Internet to field questions from college football fans in a unique forum, Reddit. Leach was essentially unfiltered, although he was not able to comment on anything that would have been in violation of NCAA rules. But that left the door wide open for some great questions and responses from fans and the new Cougars coach.
We’re talking about getting Leach’s feelings on Craig James, whether or not Bill Snyder is a sorcerer, marriage advice and even some football topics like offensive philosophy, concussions and more.
Here is a sampling of some of the questions asked to Leach, along with his response. Read the full Q&A here.
Q: How much do you hate Craig James, I mean seriously?
Leach: I think my opinion is consistent with most of the rest of America’s. This is illustrated by a poll done in the Dallas Morning News where people were asked who they would vote for senator: Mike Leach or Craig James. I got 96.5 percent of the vote.

Q: In addition, are there any details from the scandal that didn’t surface that you’re allowed to talk about?
Leach: I am allowed to talk about any of them. There are a lot of details so you will have to be a little more specific. My position has been proven through THEIR actions, THEIR memos, and THEIR sworn statements. The documentation on this is extensive. Read my book Swing Your Sword which touches on this issue but is mainly about my path into coaching.
Q: Which Big 12 team was your favorite to play? Least favorite?
Leach: I liked playing all of them. Really enjoyed going to Kyle Field to play Texas A&M, really enjoyed playing Nebraska. Playing someone difficult is tough and can be discouraging, but if you beat them the payoff is huge!
Q: On a possibly related note, is Bill Snyder really a sorcerer?
Leach: I suspect Bill Snyder may be a sorcerer…he’s one of the coaches that I admire most!
Q: Coach Leach, do you have any marriage tips? You seem to have a solid family backing despite being out of your mind busy all the time. How do you keep it all together?
Leach: I have been married almost 30 years. Making sure your wife is your best friend is one of the most important things in a good marriage. Neither party needs to keep things bottled up and there needs to be an open line of communication.
Q: I read some where that your perfect offense would involve no playbook, just letting the offense happen on the field. Is that true? If so, can you expand a little more on it, as I think it’s an interesting idea.
Leach: I don’t think that is totally accurate. Your playbook is your film clips. Written playbooks became a little obsolete when they shifted from film to video. We put our playbook on a DVD using film clips.
Q: What do you personally think about concussions in college football?
