Notre Dame’s Irish flag cleats for Navy game in Ireland
Notre Dame honoring the country of Ireland in season opener
Notre Dame and Navy will open the 2012 season in the country of Ireland, and it appears that the Fighting Irish will be dressing for the occasion in hopes of swaying some of the natives to pull for their team. How? By using this design on their cleats, mimicking the flag of Ireland.

The cleat is designed by Notre Dame’s uniform partner, adidas. I kind of like the idea, and seeing as the game is being held in Ireland I find it difficult to really criticize Notre Dame’s choice of shoe here. Sure, it is kind of hokey, but I’ll give it a pass. My only question is whether or not Notre Dame will wear a green jersey as well. Personally, with this shoe design I think it would be preferable for Notre Dame to wear the green jerseys. Heck, why not go with the shade of green as seen on the flag to match the shoe?
No word on what Navy might wear for the game, but what if the Midshipmen wore an American flag inspired cleat? It should be noted that Navy’s uniform partner is Nike. Nike has suited Navy up in some stylish uniforms before, so it would not be much of a surprise if Nike were to try and one-up adidas in this unique college football game.
