100 Reasons to love college football
Many schools have something that the team touches or rubs before heading out to the field for the next game. At Clemson it is Howard’s Rock, which stands at one end of the stadium and is the first thing Tigers players pass before stepping foot on the field. Former Clemson coach Frank Howard once told his players that if they were going to give 110% in the game that they could rub the rock. Players who would not give their best effort were told to keep their filthy hands off of the rock.
The rock has been given a pedestal to properly place it in Clemson’s football tradition and history and to this day acts as a symbol of hard work and good effort.
