Happy birthday Barry Sanders, 1988 Heisman Trophy winner
The man’s skills still amaze

Today is the birthday of one Barry Sanders, to this day one of the greatest, if not the greatest, running backs in football history. Before he went on to play his entire NFL career with the Detroit Lions, Sanders was lighting up the playing grounds in the old Big Eight Conference so much he was an easy choice to win the 1988 Heisman Trophy.
I did not watch Sanders when he was in college so I can only go by what others who did have to say and back up what I hear by watching clips on YouTube.
One thing I can say though is that even years after he has retired and been inducted in to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Barry Sanders still carries some clout in the football universe. A younger generation of football fan still knows who Barry Sanders is, perhaps in part because of YouTube. Sanders is also the featured co-cover athlete on this year’s release of NCAA Football 13. Sanders was voted by the fans and gamers on to the cover to join last season’s Heisman Trophy winner, Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III. To be featured on the cover shows that people still love Sanders. And what about these shoes?
He remains one of my favorite players in football history, and today we say happy birthday.
Speaking of the old Big Eight, this week is Big 12 Preview Week on Crystal Ball Run. Be sure to see what we have lined up for you this week, beginning with a look back on the Big 12′s history.
