Bleacher Report’s SEC blogger breaks down the big SEC games in week one
Here we are, on the eve of the college football season. Yes, we survived yet another off-season and our reward for doing so is an extended opening weekend that runs from Thursday night all the way through Monday night. Things kick off (with adjusted rules of course) Thursday night in the SEC with a key SEC East battle between one of the favorites (South Carolina) and the motivated perennial underdog (Vanderbilt), but we also have some other games well worth our time.
The Chick-fil-A Kickoff has expanded to two games in two days, so we get to watch Derek Dooley try to get the Tennessee Volunteers off on the right foot against a solid North Carolina State from the ACC on Friday night, and then we get treated to one of the ACC favorites (Clemson) looking to hold off a growing Auburn squad at the Georgia Dome. Bleacher Report SEC blogger Barrett Sallee will be in Atlanta for both games so who better to bring on to the podcast to preview these games?
Oh yes, there is also that game between defending BCS champion Alabama and Michigan. That’s pretty big too.
Any time you mention the names Alabama or Michigan, the odds are pretty good you are talking about some good college football. Throw two of the most recognized and historic college football brands on the same field and you have a fantastic event. Barrett and I talk about this game as well as the SEC contests previously mentioned. Among the topics discussed in this podcast:
- What was Nick Saban thinking comparing Denard Robinson to Cam Newton?
- South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore’s Heisman potential
- How will Clemson do without Sammy Watkins?
- What exactly should fans look for out of Vanderbilt? Auburn?
- Is this a statement weekend for the ACC? What about the SEC?
- Is Atlanta an SEC, ACC or all-around college football town?
- Alabama doesn’t rebuild, they reload
