Big Ten Stats: Melvin Gordon and Ameer Abdullah rushed for more yards in Week 4 than 39 schools have this season

Each week for Athlon Sports I am asked to sort through the box scores from around the Big Ten and come up with 10 interesting stats and observations. For the first couple of weeks I handled this task it was not pretty. That was not the case in Week 4 with the Big Ten winning 12 of 13 games and putting together some big number sin the box scores of its games. Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon and Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah are two of the best at their position in college football, and they were the big stars of the Big Ten in Week 4. Gordon set the tone early with a monster performance against Bowling Green, and Abdullah did all he could to match him in a home game against Miami. Together the two running backsĀ combined for 482 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. That is more rushing yards than 39 FBS schools have accumulated this season, and more rushing touchdowns than 41 FBS schools so far. A couple of weeks ago I highlighted the dismal performances by running backs around the Big Ten, but that was certainly not the case in Week 4. Check out this week's Big Ten stats round-up for Athlon Sports for more stats and notes from the Big Ten's Week 4.
