Wow. What a way to get started with the 2014 college football season. With no disrespect to Eastern Washington and Sam Houston State, the first weekend on the college football calendar was nothing short of entertainment. It started with Georgia State enjoying its moment in the national spotlight, continued Thursday with Kenny Hill introducing himself to the nation with a Texas A&M blowout at South Carolina, and saw Taysom Hill and BYU establish dominance on Friday night. Saturday morning got an early start with Penn State and UCF going down to the final seconds in Dublin, Ireland, continued with Ohio State pulling away from Navy, Alabama getting a challenge from West Virginia, Georgia running away from Clemson, Florida State coming up with the plays and moments a top-ranked team does in moments of adversity against Oklahoma State, and LSU giving Wisconsin a painful start to the new season.
Get ready, because we’re just getting started!
Every week on the podcast we will spend some time rewinding what just happened over the weekend and begin to take a quick look forward to the next weekend. Today I take a look at some of the big themes from week one with a longtime friend of the podcast, Andy Coppens of Big Ten OT and Madtown Badgers. After warming Andy up with some talk about the Texas A&M surprise at South Carolina and some chatter about some other games from the weekend, we dive deep into the heart of a Wisconsin fan and try to figure out where the Badgers go from here after letting one get away from them in Houston against LSU. After failing to score a significant win for the Big Ten, the burden of carrying the conference banner moves to Michigan State, with the Spartans heading to Oregon this weekend.
