UConn updates its look for 2015

UConn took a gamble with their non-traditional approach to a uniform upgrade a couple of years ago. Now, as the program enters its second season under new head coach Bob Diaco, the Huskies have updated their look to perhaps be taken a bit more seriously. Gone is the husky staring right at you across the line of scrimmage as the Huskies now go with a more familiar side logo on the helmet. Not a bad move.

We first got a glimpse of the new uniforms by taking screen shots from the latest teaser video put online by the program yesterday. Check out the look of the road white uniform and new helmet (featured photo above). I think this looks really nice for the program. Here is a closer look at the front of the helmet, which shows the outline of the state of Connecticut…

I love it. Sure, I was hoping we would see UConn dig into the past a little bit and embrace the old UConn script, but I think they did a really nice job of staying true to the updated husky logo and managed not to go overboard with a helmet design. It is very clean, utilizes the colors of the school and looks fantastic. Of all the uniform changes we will see around college football in 2015, the UConn helmet may be the single most drastic improvement we see. This was the only helmet shown off in the video promo, so for now there is no indication of any other helmet for 2015. We also got a quick look at the helmet being worn with the home blue uniform (at first I thought this was an alternate black uniform, but it really is dark blue)…

We also got a quick look at a third jersey in the teaser video. Yep, UConn will be wearing an alternate gray uniform this fall.

UConn, you were doing so well until showing off that gray jersey at the end. Despite caving to the fad of gray uniforms, I cannot help but give UConn a roaring round of applause for their updated uniforms for the 2015 season. They look sharp, and I cannot wait to see what they look like on the field.
