Bill Bender of The Sporting News makes his first appearance
It’s here. Can you feel it? Week 1 of the 2015 college football season is here (well, Montana-North Dakota State aside). We have finally arrived to a brand new season of college football, and it could not start soon enough. We will also be handsomely rewarded for our patience with quite a line-up of games to look forward to.
On Thursday night the big game will be played in the Pac-12 when Utah hosts Michigan in the second part of a home-and-home deal. The Utes were big winners in Ann arbor a season ago and look poised to make things interesting in the wild Pac-12 South. Of course, they also get a chance to spoil the debut of Jim Harbaugh as Michigan’s head coach. On Saturday we will be watching another Pac-12 South squad take on a trendy pick out of the SEC when Arizona State and Texas A&M meet each other in Houston. Expect plenty of offense in that one. If defense is more your thing, then head over to Arlington where Alabama will look to avoid a second straight loss to a Big Ten team when they take on Wisconsin. Wrapping up your jam-packed opening weekend will be defending national champion Ohio State looking to avoid an upset on the road against the only team to hand the Buckeyes a loss last season, Virginia Tech. It should be a raucous atmosphere, and the Buckeyes may once again be vulnerable in Blacksburg.
Joining me on this episode of the podcast is Bill Bender, from The Sporting News. Bill and I touch briefly on each of these big games this weekend (there simply was not enough time to run through more games). Bill was even kind enough to set aside some extra time for me since I lost my power the first time we attempted to record this interview. In addition to making some quick picks for these games, I also got Bill to go on the record with his College Football Playoff predictions. It turns out, he and I are on the same page with our playoff picks. Great minds think alike, I suppose.
