The world of analytics in sports has continued to evolve, and Dave Bartoo from CFB Matrix is one of the leaders in the game when it comes to college football. I always enjoy getting a chance to talk to Dave about the numbers he is following in college football to gain some insight into the analytical meaning behind certain trends and teams. He just so happens to be busy cooking up new ways to break things down, as his new research into explosive scores demonstrates. Bartoo also has been keeping tabs on pace of play, and the latest results may be a bit of a surprise. Is college football actually slowing down its overall pace? We discussed those trends in this episode of the podcast.

We also touch on some of the more recent developments in the coaching carousel. The sudden retirement of Jerry Kill at Minnesota is a bit of a shock, so we took some time to reflect on the impact Kill had on the Gophers using some of Bartoo’s┬áresearch and numbers. We also discussed the impact Jim Harbaugh is having at Michigan and try to figure out what is next for Miami after firing Al Golden.
