Notre Dame will once again be suiting up in a specially designed football uniform for their Shamrock Series game against Army this season in San Antonio. As this year’s neutral site game is being played against Army, the Irish showed off a military-appreciation type uniform from Under Armour.

From head to toe, this is certainly not even close to being the worst Shamrock Series uniform Notre Dame has worn. In fact, it may be one of the best we have seen to date (note to self: rank Notre Dame Shamrock Series uniforms later). Honoring the troops is always a nice gesture, of course, and I have to say Under Armour did a pretty solid job with this one. It does not go too far overboard with the patriotism and military touches. There may be some nitpicky comments you can make about it, but considering uniforms previously worn by Notre Dame for their annual neutral site adventures, this looks like a solid winner.
The green uniforms come complete with a dark gold-colored font and number system with a unique font that fits the Notre Dame theme. Of course, we have to talk about the helmet. It looks a little familiar, no? There appears to be a pretty definitive Army flavor to this helmet…
Perhaps the stripe down the middle of Notre Dame’s gold helmet is a really dark green, but it does somewhat closely resemble the look Army typically uses for its gold helmet. Surely this is not by coincidence.
At first glance, you may have missed it, but those Notre Dame helmets also come with a unique hand-painted design on them as well. That’s pretty sharp.
We’ll have to wait and see if Army sticks to their standard helmets or if they wear something special for the occasion in San Antonio. But back to the uniform the Irish will be wearing. The back of the neckline will have an American flag patch, and the players will be wearing special gloves for the game…
Some quick thoughts. First, I still tend to hate the idea of a program like Notre Dame getting involved with uniform gimmicks like this. That said, they only do it for the one game per year, so we can live with it. And this year, they went with a military-inspired look, and I almost always applaud that move if it is done in good taste. Based on these initial looks, I have to say this one was done very well by the folks at Under Armour. It could have been a whole lot worse, like gold military fatigue pants.
We’ll wear it with pride on Nov. 12 vs Army in Texas. pic.twitter.com/7qOfdzpdHB

Notre Dame will wear these uniforms on November 12 when they take on Army in San Antonio, Texas. It will be the first time the Irish and Black Knights have played since 2010, when they met in Yankee Stadium and the Irish won by a score of 27-3. Army has not defeated Notre Dame since 1958, with the Irish winning the 14 most recent meetings between 1965 and 2010. This will be the first time the two programs have played each other in the state of Texas.
