Emily Kaplan of The MMQB discusses her new column and some of the games we’re watcing in Week 1

Our first podcast of the 2016 season welcomes a new guest. Emily Kaplan writes about football for Peter King’s The MMQB, from Sports Illustrated. While The MMQB has typically focused on the sport of football at the professional level, Kaplan is writing a brand new college column this season, simply titled The College Column. In it, Kaplan discusses some of the aspects of the college game many readers from the college and, perhaps more likely, the NFL world may not be too familiar with. For her first piece in the featured column, Kaplan interviewed Alabama head coach Nick Saban. That’s one way to grab some attention as a new column debuts!

During the course of our conversation, we discussed how Kaplan, a Penn State grad, went from being a stringer for the Associated Press during the most tumultuous time at Penn State to joining The MMQB. Needless to say, Kaplan got some great real life experience in the field while a student at Penn State. In addition to discussing Kaplan’s background and approach to covering the sport of football, we also shared some brief comments on a few of the big game sin this loaded opening weekend around college football.
