You will have to excuse me for being somewhat silent the second half of last week. I have been busy trying to raise $18,000 to buy Terrelle Pryor’s 2008 Big Ten championship ring off of ebay. Looks like I fell a few bucks shy.
Vanderdoes cites family health concerns for transfer
Notre Dame is standing firm on the terms of a National Letter of Intent with stud 2013 lineman Eddie Vanderdoes. Vanderdoes had signed with Notre Dame but now plans to play at UCLA. Because he already signed with the Irish he can lose one year of eligibility by playing at UCLA, but Vanderdoes and his family are hoping to win an appeal that reveals some of the logic to the change of heart. According to Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com, a close relative’s health is playing a role in the situation. If legit, here’s hoping Notre Dame shows some heart and allows Vanderdoes to keep his fourth year of eligibility at UCLA.
Butch Jones working hard to rebuild Tennessee
I do not think Butch Jones is ever going to reach Nick Saban or Urban Meyer levels of achievement, but I do feel strongly that he will help significantly in turning Tennessee football around. I have been a big fan of Jones to Tennessee since day one and I feel he has done a lot of good work since taking over the program. Saturday Blitz has a good read on how Jones is establishing connections in the recruiting trail that is worth a look.
Bill O’Brien nabs another quarterback
In a short period of time at Penn State Bill O’Brien has recruited four quarterbacks, all of which have come from outside the Big Ten’s footprint. Penn State signed Steven Bench out of Georgia in 2012 (Bench has since transferred to South Florida), JUCO transfer Tyler Ferguson out of California and blue chipper Christian Hackenberg from Virginia (where Penn State has traditionally faired pretty well). Over the weekend O’Brien received a verbal commitment from four-star quarterback Michael O’Connor out of Florida. O’Brien’s experience with Tom Brady and impressive work with Matt McGloin in 2012 has caught the attention of quarterbacks around the country. Considering the hampered state of recruiting Penn State is working through, O’Brien continues to do a very solid job and it has me legitimately wondering what things could be like in State College if O’Brien sticks around long enough to work with a full allotment of scholarship offers.
ACC Preview Week on Crystal Ball Run
Over on Crystal Ball Run we have been dedicating a week to each conference with preview content and commentary. I have been chipping in with recaps of the previous season to start the week. Today we move on to the bigger conferences by starting with a look at the ACC. Here’s what you missed in the ACC in 2012 if you weren’t paying attention, as well as a couple of the changes going in to 2013.
