Episode 128 – Talking Big 12 football with Greg Swaim

August 30, 2012 Podcast 8 Comments

One final podcast before the first games are played

Happy college football day everybody! Today the 2012 college football season officially kicks off and we all deserve to sit back, relax and enjoy some college football action tonight. We talked a little bit about the South CArolina-Vanderbilt game and some other notable SEC games taking place in yesterday’s podcast with Barrett Sallee. Today we take a quick look at the Big 12 with Greg Swaim.

The Big 12 does not have any real notable games on the week one schedule but there is plenty to discuss with this conference heading in to the 2012 season. Nevertheless, it is a fun conference and there should be some fantastic games to pay attention to as we go through the schedule.

Some of the topics we discussed in this episode include:

  • What the additions of West Virginia and TCU mean
  • Can West Virginia make a Big 12 title run in 2012? What about TCU?
  • Or is Oklahoma still the team to beat despite some recent roster adjustments?
  • Will freshman Wes Lunt be able to keep the Oklahoma State Cowboys from crashing back to Earth this fall?
  • Does Mack Brown wish he still had Garrett Gilbert?
  • How does Baylor follow-up last season without Robert Griffin III?
  • Bill Snyder, the legend

Morning Bump and Run [5.14.2012] – Boom goes the ACC

May 14, 2012 News 2 Comments

Florida State ready to leave the ACC?

Via Reddit.

Just when you though the weekend was going slowly, this article from Warchant.com gets everyone hopping with the possibility that Florida State will leave the ACC for the Big 12, quite possibly one of the most successful pieces ever written on the Rivals.com network. In short, Florida State Board of Trustees Chair Andy Haggard ripped the ACC for not exploring more lucrative options in their new television contract with ESPN, which looked good on paper at first but actually lacked financial benefits that play in favor of a school like Florida State.

The statements made by Haggard led Florida State to issue a statement with regret of the misinformation that was quickly put to the test by some, and reaffirmed their commitment to the ACC. But it does seem that if there was anything that was going to persuade Florida State to leave the ACC, the television deal may have been it. Dan Wetzel suggests it was the last straw.

Of course, if Florida State were to leave the ACC for the Big 12, who would join them to put the conference back to 12 teams? Clemson? Virginia Tech? Notre Dame? We’ll see.

Speaking of the Big 12, the Red River Rivalry will stay in the Cotton Bowl through 2020. This is good for college football.

Pittsburgh is suing the Big East. Hey, it worked for West Virginia. … Continue Reading

Episode 104: Boomer Sooner Spring Blooming

March 7, 2012 Podcast 8 Comments

Sooners are without key players this spring, will it matter?

The Oklahoma Sooners were slowed down by injuries in 2011 and fell shy of lofty preseason expectations. I perhaps fell for it, I will freely admit. An early season win at Florida State was great,I thought at the time even though I didn’t think 2011 was Florida State’s big year. As the season wore on Oklahoma took a hit at home against Texas Tech, dropped a thriller at Baylor and ran in to a buzz saw against a poised and determined Oklahoma State team.

Since then Landry Jones has decided to return for one more season despite being graded as a first-round quality NFL Draft pick, Bob Stoops brought on his brother Mike to handle the defense and the Sooners are awaiting the arrival of a couple of transfers in the summer. So what can they look forward to this spring, as camp has opened up in Norman? That’s what we wanted to find out on today’s podcast.

Our guest today is Allen Kenney, from Blatant Homerism and co-managing editor at Crystal Ball Run. Allen gives us his perspective on the Sooners, the key positions this spring and takes a look to the fall when TCU and West Virginia look to give Oklahoma a run for their money in the Big 12.

Bob Stoops looks back on Texas A&M’s Big 12 accomplsihments

March 6, 2012 Humor, News 6 Comments

All of a sudden he remembered

Bob Stoops forgot about this one, after winning seven of his own.

Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops had some interesting things to say when addressing the media yesterday, including this not-so-subtle shot at outgoing Big 12 members Texas A&M and Missouri…

“When you look at what these guys [West Virginia, TCU] have done, we are bringing in two ranked teams at the end of the year and the two that left [Texas A&M, Missouri] I don’t know that they were,” Stoops said. “I can’t remember.”

Ahh, Big Game Bob. Never change.
